The weight vest lost the lean.

Oregon put a Parkinson's room on a lean plate twice a week. The slow form moved the lean 9.56 points. The weight vest moved it 4.02.

The vest still lost.

TikTok sold a five-minute walk

The clip sold a stroll. Oregon sold 24 weeks.

On 11 August 2026 Firstpost named Keanu Reeves and Lou Reed as the door people actually click, then said celebrity will not keep the revival going, and that a five-minute Tai Chi Walking clip is a different clock than a structured programme over weeks.

That celebrity-door-then-clock is the move this page steals before it walks into the 60-minute Oregon lean plate Li actually used.

Catchy.

Wrong clock.

The clip asks for a hallway.

Li asked for 48 hours on the calendar, 60 minutes at a time, twice a week, across 24 weeks, with a NeuroCom plate waiting at the end of that clock and a vest hanging in the next room so the same bodies could lose the lean against a real load.

Oregon put them on a lean plate twice a week

Four cities. Same hour. Three rooms.

Li's group printed the work in the New England Journal of Medicine, volume 366, issue 6, pages 511 to 519, DOI 10.1056/NEJMoa1107911, after a room that ran from May 2008 through November 2010 across Eugene, Corvallis, Salem, and Portland.

Oregon Research Institute sits at 1715 Franklin Blvd., Eugene, OR 97403.

They screened 309 people by phone and then in person, and 195 qualified after a Hoehn and Yahr stage between 1 and 4, an age between 40 and 85, a Mini-Mental score of 24 or higher, and a willingness to take any of the three rooms.

65 went to tai chi.

65 went to resistance.

65 went to stretching.

Age sat near 68, 69, and 69.

One hundred sixty-four people, 84 percent, sat at Hoehn and Yahr stage 2 or higher. Median stage 2.5. Stages ran 1 to 4. Ages ran 40 to 85.

Sixty minutes. Twice a week. 24 weeks.

48 sessions on the sheet.

Average attendance sat at 37 sessions, 77 percent, 37 of 48 in tai chi, 37 of 48 in resistance, 38 of 48 in stretching, median 39, range 3 to 48. One hundred thirty-seven people, 70 percent, made 36 or more. Attendance did not split, p = 0.67.

176 finished the assigned rooms. 185 gave complete follow-up numbers.

The tai chi protocol used six movements folded into an eight-form routine that taxed balance on purpose, with weight shifting, ankle sways, and stepping that moved the center of mass toward the edge of the base, because the authors wanted the plate to see a lean the vest room could not fake with extra kilos.

The first 10 weeks drilled single forms.

Later weeks stacked them.

Natural breathing sat inside the hour.

The resistance room waited until week 10 to hang a weighted vest, first at 1 percent of body weight, then up about 1 to 2 percent every fifth week until 5 percent, with ankle weights from 0.45 kg to 1.36 kg, and 8 to 10 exercises in 1 to 3 sets of 10 to 15.

The stretch room sat and stood through gentle joint work so the social hour stayed and the load left.

A NeuroCom Balance Master printed the lean, and maximum excursion is how far you can shift your center of gravity toward a theoretical 100 percent in each of eight target directions without falling, while directional control is the share of that shift that actually goes toward the target instead of wandering off the line.

Assessors did not know the room. People knew their own class. Tests ran during on periods, when the pills were working.

The vest added kilos and still lost the lean

The vest thickened the thighs. The plate still picked the slow form.

At 6 months the tai chi lean sat at 73.62, spread 13.44, up from 64.05. The vest sat at 68.03, up from 64.02. Stretching sat at 61.94, down from 64.35.

Between-group change: tai chi beat the vest by 5.55 points, CI 1.12 to 9.97, p = 0.01. Tai chi beat stretching by 11.98, CI 7.21 to 16.74, p under 0.001.

Inside the slow-form room the lean rose 9.56 points, p under 0.001. The vest rose 4.02, p = 0.02. Stretching stayed put.

Directional control rose 8.02 points on the slow form, 65.75 to 73.77. The vest dropped 2.43, 65.12 to 62.69, p = 0.35 inside that room. Stretching dropped too.

Tai chi beat the vest on directional control by 10.45 points, CI 3.89 to 17.00, p = 0.002. Against stretching the gap sat at 11.38, CI 5.50 to 17.27, p under 0.001.

The vest added kilos.

The plate still picked the slow form.

Stride grew 10.3 on the slow form

The walk lengthened. The vest kept the torque.

Stride on the slow form went from 115.6 cm to 125.9, a 10.3 cm gain. The vest gained 4.3. Stretching lost a little.

Tai chi beat the vest on stride by 5.9 cm, CI 1.5 to 10.4, p = 0.01. Functional reach grew 5.0 cm on the slow form and 2.2 on the vest, between-group 2.8, p = 0.01.

Walking speed rose about 10 cm per second on both the slow form and the vest, 110.1 to 120.6 against 109.2 to 119.1, and that split missed at plus 0.5 with a CI that crossed zero, so the vest can keep the speed claim if it wants it.

Knee extension rose 13.9 Nm on tai chi and 14.6 on the vest.

That split missed too.

The vest can keep the torque.

UPDRS III dropped 6.42 points on the slow form and 5.07 on the vest. A 5-point drop is the clinically meaningful cut they named. Both rooms cleared it. The gap between them missed.

Timed up-and-go fell 1.05 seconds on the slow form and 1.00 on the vest. Against stretching the slow form won by 1.03 seconds. Against the vest it tied.

Falls dropped against the stretch class

381 falls. The stretch class kept more of them.

Seventy-six of 195 people, 39 percent, fell at least once across the 6 months, and the calendars they kept at home printed 381 falls in total, with the stretch class carrying 186 of them and the vest carrying 133 while the slow form carried 62.

Rate per participant-month: 0.22, 0.51, 0.62.

Tai chi had 67 percent fewer falls than stretching, incidence-rate ratio 0.33, CI 0.16 to 0.71, p = 0.005. Against the vest the ratio sat at 0.47, CI 0.21 to 1.00, p = 0.05.

Marginal.

Three months after class stopped, the lean held, and the fall gap against the vest finally cleared, ratio 0.40, CI 0.18 to 0.88, p = 0.02.

In class, two people fell in tai chi, four in the vest room, five in stretching. Muscle soreness 1 against 4 against 1. No major adverse event printed.

What the Oregon room still owes

Did the vest beat the slow form on strength?

No. Knee extension rose 13.9 Nm on tai chi and 14.6 on the vest. Between-group minus 0.6, not significant. Flexion favored the vest by 3.8 Nm and still missed.

Did tai chi cut falls against the vest?

During the 24 weeks the ratio sat at 0.47, CI 0.21 to 1.00, p = 0.05. Against stretching it cleared, 0.33, p = 0.005. Three months later the vest gap cleared too, 0.40, p = 0.02.

Who stood on the lean plate?

195 people with idiopathic Parkinson's, stages 1 to 4, ages 40 to 85, four Oregon cities. 84 percent sat at stage 2 or higher. A well 30-year-old in a park class is a different room.

How long did the lean last after class stopped?

Three months. Primary and secondary gains held. Falls stayed lower against both other rooms in that follow-up window.

Is a five-minute TikTok walk the Oregon room?

Li measured 60 minutes twice a week for 24 weeks, eight forms, a NeuroCom plate, and a vest that still lost the lean. A hallway clip does not print that plate.
