Cool-place homework cut the logger.

Five weekly cool-place scripts plus a daily CD cut diary flashes 74.16 percent. The matching attention hour cut 17.13.

The information CD kept more of the heat.

A 2-micromho jump is a flash

Two dots under the collarbones. One jump of 2 micromho in 30 seconds.

That's the rule Baylor used. A Biolog box sampled skin conductance once a second. Electrodes sat 1.5 inches below the collarbones and 2 inches off the sternal midline. Software named FlashTrax flagged a flash if conductance jumped at least 2 micromho inside 30 seconds, then locked out for 15 minutes so one surge could not print twice.

A trained reader still had to agree the trace matched published vasomotor shapes. Diary ticks can rise when a woman gets better at noticing. A collarbone jump is harder to invent.

Gary Elkins said that split out loud on Baylor's news page, still live from 31 October 2012. He wanted both clocks. Self-report and the logger. "Not just a change in tolerance or ability to cope, but the hot flashes themselves decreased."

News copy later rounded the diary fall toward 80 percent. Table 2 keeps 74.16 for weekly frequency and 80.32 for the score that multiplies frequency by severity. Quote the table.

Two CDs sat in the same 45-minute chair

Same room. Same hour. One disc taught coolness. The other taught facts.

Mind-Body Medicine Research Laboratory, Baylor University, Waco, recruited from December 2008 to April 2012 off newspaper ads, referrals, television, and billboards, then screened 538 women and lost 88 under the flash floor, 50 who were still cycling, 55 already on another treatment, 10 with psychiatric exclusions, 2 who did not speak English, and 146 who screened clean and never arrived, which left 187 randomized, 93 to hypnosis and 94 to structured attention.

Mean age 54.61, range 39 to 75, mostly White, baseline weekly flashes 75.26 on the script arm and 75.21 on the attention arm, and they had to show seven flashes a day, or 50 a week, before anyone opened an envelope.

Five weekly visits of about 45 minutes used a hypnosis manual that stacked an induction, coolness images, a safe place, and relaxation picked to the woman in the chair, then sent her home with a recording of an induction to run every day. Baylor's news page named the pictures some of them used, a snowy path or a cool mountain creek, and the reprint leaves the picture to preference.

Structured attention matched the hours, the talking, the encouragement, the room, and the homework shape. They got a CD of information about hot flashes and a daily listen task. No induction. No cooling suggestion. Jensen and Patterson's 2005 advice on minimal-effect hypnosis controls sat behind that design.

Pay after three visits and at the last follow-up, up to 300 dollars. Single-blind. The woman knew which chair she got. The biostatistician kept the list.

Week 6, the attention logger climbed

Diary fell a little on attention. The patch went the other way.

Week 6 is the first full after-sheet, and the diary already split hard: hypnosis dropped 48.07 flashes, 63.87 percent off baseline, 27.19 left among 84 women, while attention dropped 6.95, 9.24 percent, 68.26 left among 90 women, mean gap p under .001, 95 percent CI 38.84 to 47.85, d = 1.25.

Score, frequency times severity, fell 16.72 on hypnosis, 71.36 percent, and 1.91 on attention, 8.32 percent, so the severity product moved with the count instead of hiding in a milder mark.

Then the patch. Hypnosis logger dropped 4.26 events, 40.92 percent, 6.15 left among 68 traces, and the attention logger climbed 0.63, a 7 percent rise, 9.48 left among 78 traces, which means talking about flashes, filling the diary, and wearing the box printed more sternal jumps at week 6, not fewer.

I've worn cheap chest tape that itched and made me check the clock. Twenty-five women in this file named mild adhesive rash. No other adverse event. The climb is the finding, not the itch.

Week 12 still owed the patch a smaller count

Diary 74.16 percent down. Logger 56.86. Attention kept most of both.

Week 12 sat six weeks after the fifth visit, and the diary kept the split: hypnosis down 55.82 flashes, 74.16 percent, 19.44 left among 78 women, attention down 12.89, 17.13 percent, 62.32 left among 87 women, gap p under .001, CI 36.15 to 49.67, d = 1.27.

Score fell 18.83 on hypnosis, 80.32 percent, 4.61 left, and 3.53 on attention, 15.38 percent, 19.41 left, so the product of frequency and severity still favored the cool-place disc.

Logger: hypnosis minus 5.92, 56.86 percent, 4.49 left among 49 traces, attention minus 0.88, 9.94 percent, 7.97 left among 70 traces. Name the hole. Forty-nine hypnosis traces at week 12 against 84 at baseline, seventy attention traces against 88, dropouts on the box are a real limit, and the remaining traces still split.

Daily interference on the HFRDIS fell 4.82 on hypnosis, 82.11 percent, against 1.32, 22.96 percent, on attention, and PSQI global sleep fell 6.27, 53.63 percent, against 1.23, 10.34 percent, with satisfaction 9.33 against 7.09 on a 0 to 10 mark.

A 50 percent cut on flashes and interference is the clinical bar they cited from Sloan and Loprinzi. The script arm cleared it. The attention arm did not. A 2008 Elkins pilot in breast-cancer survivors, five weekly sessions, had already printed a 69 percent diary cut against baseline. This trial added the attention chair and the sternal box.

Padua later ran eight minutes on a memory

One sit. Medical students. A different clock than five Waco weeks.

Queirolo's Scientific Reports paper, version of record 12 March 2026, sat 49 final-year students at the University of Padua, 26 on a personalized hypnosis sit and 23 on breath-focused attention matched in length, enrolled 6 February to 1 October 2025, NCT06778109, written to TREND, and they said the design was not a randomized trial.

Each student recalled a bad training memory for two minutes, sat eight minutes, then recalled the same memory again, with hypnosis using a pleasant scene the student already had, sun on a beach or trees, and Tower of London Revised as the planning test, hypnosis 19.9 to 24.3, breath chair 18.96 to 21.87, ANCOVA on the post score F(1,46) = 4.62, p under .05, d = 0.62.

Stress on the breath chair went up. Twenty-five of 26 hypnosis students said they felt better. Eighteen of 23 breath students said they felt worse. RMSSD, a vagal beat-gap mark, rose on the second stress pass after hypnosis and fell on the breath chair, d = 1.28, BF10 792.9.

That file is an eight-minute student sit with a memory. Waco is five weeks, a daily CD, and a collarbone box on postmenopausal flashes. Keep them apart. If you came here for hypnosis, Waco measured five weekly cool-place hours plus a daily CD against a matched attention hour, a diary that fell 74.16 percent, and a collarbone logger that fell 56.86, which is a narrower claim than a swinging-watch caption can carry.

Cool-place homework cut the logger.

Did the chest patch agree with the diary?

Directionally, yes, at week 12. Diary 74.16 percent down. Logger 56.86. Attention 17.13 and 9.94. At week 6 the attention logger climbed 0.63 events while the attention diary fell 6.95, so the two clocks can split when the chair is talk and a fact CD.

Did the control get a therapist and a disc too?

Yes. Five 45-minute visits. Symptom talk. Encouragement. A daily CD about hot flashes. No induction. No cool-place suggestion. That was the point of the chair.

Is a headset sit the Waco hour?

No. Padua 2026 ran eight minutes on students and a memory. A 7 August 2026 headset room ran 30 chronic-pain patients as a proof-of-concept. Waco ran five weeks and a sternal box. Different clocks.

Why did the logger n shrink?

Baseline traces 84 hypnosis, 88 attention. Week 12 traces 49 and 70. The reprint leaves the missing boxes unnamed beyond ordinary missing-data handling. The remaining traces still split, p under .001, and the hole is still a hole.

Did the tape hurt anyone?

Twenty-five mild adhesive rashes. No medical treatment. No other adverse events logged from hypnosis or from the attention hour.
